The Person

Besides my work, which I find wonderful and fascinating, you can find me in my hammock on the veranda or by the pool. I'm proud that I'm no longer such a huge workaholic. I even have hobbies these days! For example, coloring and embroidery. I love reading on my e-reader; previously, only Eastern wisdom, embodiment, and leadership books, but now also a lot of fantasy with magic, dragons, and romance. I've been happily married to Rik since 2006, and I'm lucky to have his daughter, who was 10 at the time, in my life. I love meditating, walking, cycling, and going to the gym (well, love is an understatement, it's okay 😉). I'm happiest when Rik plays the handpan while I'm hanging in the hammock.

Anouk on Leadership Embodiment

"From now on, everything will be different." That's what I said to my husband, Rik, when I got home from the leadership conference where I'd attended Level 1 of Leadership Embodiment with my teacher, Wendy Palmer. I'd hesitated beforehand: "I already practice aikido, leadership, mindfulness, and neurobiology; can she teach me anything?" But luckily, I listened to my intuition. Wendy Palmer had spent 40 years translating the principles of mindfulness and aikido (a Japanese martial art) for busy people in organizations. What do I appreciate so much about it? The techniques are both an accessible quick fix and a profound practice. I can think of nothing more useful for my life than teaching more people to center themselves, so they can listen, speak, and collaborate with greater ease, even in difficult situations. In this way, we can alleviate some of the suffering in the world.
